Feminist!!?? women's lib?
Morning everyone!
Before i start my scratching's, i'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone Happy New Year,Selamat Hari Raya Haji and Happy Chinese New Year...
Ok..i had a very interesting discussion over the last couple of weekends. But i had to delay blogging this is as it is a rather touchy subject and i have been drafting and re-drafting this a couple of times.....but in the end, i just decided to write down whatever i was thinking...so apologies if everything is a bit hay wired.....
It had to do with feminism, equal rights and equal opportunities. Its not to say that i do not agree with the advocacy of such thoughts, ideals or musings, i do agree with it, but to a certain extent, i do not consider myself as a male chauvinistic pig, but maybe after reading this, some of you may think that i am...but hear me out.
When the female community started advocating equal rights and opportunities, equal chances and the like, i couldnt agree more, i mean why should the male community bear the heavy burden, let the women folk share and shoulder the burden too. However, i totally disagree (i know, it sounds rather strong) with absolute equality or opportunity in everything.
I do agree that females should be given an equal opportunity with regards to career and education and equal rights to be heard and their views to be taken seriously (this list is non-exhaustive mind you, i alone cannot and will not decide on what should and what should not be given equal opportunity), but there are certain areas which i think the male community should be given the dominant authority.
Religion wise, Islam advocates that the male is the head of the family and the out right leader in government and the females should take a back seat, this i think i can't say much and even if i could, i wouldn't dare as my knowledge of Islam is still in its infancy and i do not think i would be the best person to say my thoughts out loud for fear of being labelled as a rebel even by my own friends.
In terms of education, i think females should be given every opportunity to have an education as i think, females and males are pretty much equal in this aspect. No doubt there may have been studies done by people with thick glasses and sparse hair with a receding hair line saying that the male community is more adept at and in education, but i beg to differ. I think females have shown to us that they are able to comprehend and understand better. I remembered my time as a student in MRSM and then in Aberystwyth, females have always seem to be a permanent fixture in the top students lists and honestly, i have always found that females teach better than males. But then again, maybe it was just because i was enamoured by the opposite sex...
Anyways, in areas which does not require any physical exertion or contact, i think females should be given every opportunity and not be slagged off. They should be given a right to voice out their thoughts and also have a right to be heard and their views to be taken into consideration.
A few years back, well, more than a few years back, you could also say that culture played a major role in females taking the back seat in a lot of things.....i mean females were always expected to grow up with limited education and get married early and give birth, that was the major roles of females as deciphered or pre determined by the culture that we were brought up in. But with the advent of technology and to an extent, maybe a large extent the british coming to malaysia/malaya back then, opened more than a few avenues for females to seek an education and a vocation...this lead to the opening of doors to more pathways which was never opened before.....
Males, i think we somehow seem to take our superiority for granted, we think it is our given right to be superior than females. Maybe a couple of hundred years ago it was that way as everything boiled down to physical exertion..but nowadays, the grey matter in our heads count too...sometimes more than equal measure... and i do not think that God made males superior than females in this matter, i think God made us equal, its up to us on how to make full use of it....
On the local front, the recent laws that was made about females and males..about what can be done and what cannot be done and so on and so forth....well....honestly, its a load of bull....throw it out for God's sake, you are making us take a step backwords rather than forwards, are we the male species so worried that we are being overtaken by the female species.....so much so that we have to get laws enacted to preserve our rights...hah!! I think the new laws just allows for fat old politicians with receeding hairlines to be able to marry more than one wife to satisfy their cravings for sex...a boost to their egos so to speak....
C'mon, we can't even take care of one wife and now with this new thing in place, it makes it so much easier to marry another....which head was thinking when this new thing was thought out..the one on top or the one dangling below!!!!
I know there are a lot of other issues, but this one for me just takes the cake!!
I mean, its the 21st century for God's sake. Mankind have evolved from being brainless creatures like the now extinct dodo bird having the emotions of a newt to what we are now..we should evolve with time and by evolving, i mean with our brains too, we have learnt a lot through reading our history and from the stories passed on from gerenerations, we should take all of this into consideration and make good....I do not want to bring a kid into this world when i think we are taking a step backwards in things.....hopefully we would make it a better world for ourselves and also our future generation...our kids..
we are born onto this earth partly to make a life for ourselves, but partly also to ensure the life and future of our next generation.....
